Exploring Colorado's Top Activities for Visitors

Colorado is quite literally a haven for outdoor adventures. According to the Colorado Tourism Industry report for 2023, the top activities for visitors were shopping, sightseeing, and hiking/backpacking. This doesn’t surprise me considering you can do all 3 in many locations. Consider a weekend trip to Breckinridge, city living in Denver, or small town Buena Vista for less crowds.

Shopping in Colorado: For those who love retail therapy, Colorado offers an array of shopping opportunities. Whether you're strolling through Downtown Denver, exploring the eclectic boutiques in Boulder, or browsing the unique shops in mountain towns like Breckinridge and Vail, you're sure to find fuzzy coats or wooden decor to take home. Plan to allocate a day or more to explore the shopping scenes, where you can discover everything from trendy fashion to locally crafted souvenirs. *If you plan to ski, rent your gear or purchase in advance. You will not find many deals on winter gear in the heart of winter!

Sightseeing in Colorado: Colorado's natural landscapes are nothing short of the “wow” factor. From the Rocky Mountains to the awe-inspiring red rocks in Morrison, sightseeing is an absolute must for any visitor. With an average stay of 3-4 nights, you'll want to make time to drive scenic roads, visit national parks, and soak in local mountain hot springs. Don't forget to explore cultural landmarks like historic mining towns and the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater. Whether you're capturing Instagram-worthy moments or hoping for a pure and quiet moment practicing yoga on the peaks, Colorado's sightseeing opportunities are everywhere.

My few of my favorite drivable views (meaning you don’t need to hike or trek anywhere)

  • Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park | Estes Park, CO

  • Red Rocks Amphitheater | Denver, CO

  • Guanella Pass to Kenosha Pass | Georgetown, CO

  • Piney River Ranch | Vail, CO

Hiking and Backpacking Adventures: Hikers and backpackers will find paradise in Colorado's extensive map of trails. Whether you’re into multi-day hiking or backpacking excursions to fully immerse yourself in nature, or day trips to Lake Dillon, Colorado offers a diverse range of trails suitable for all skill levels. Explore the Colorado Trail, ascend 14er’s like Pikes Peak or Longs Peak, or meander through the wildflowers at Rocky Mountain National Park. With the right preparation and gear, you can experience Colorado's wilderness like never before.

Colorado's top activities for visitors cater to varied tastes, ensuring a memorable experience for all looking for a treat. Whether you're indulging in retail therapy, taking in breathtaking sights, or embarking on outdoor adventures, allow yourself ample time to savor the best that Colorado has to offer. So, whether you're drawn to urban exploration or the call of the wild, start planning your Colorado adventure today.
