Why Vail is the best town to see fall colors.
Plus some other mountain towns to see those yellow trees
Vail, Colorado is home to one of the best (and pricey) mountain towns to shop, ski, and explore. But did you know it also has some hikes and hillsides to see the yellow trees change?
Continue onto Avon and you’ll escape the crowds in the small town of Vail. If you’re hoping to find a quiet area, Upper Piney River Falls is worth the trek if you’re looking for incredible views along the lake. You’ll need your own car to get up there.
Guanella Pass is a classic if you’re in the mood to stay in the car. Driving up the pass exposes you to miles and miles of yellow trees, and if you’re lucky, you may spot the Moose family living up there as well.
You really can’t go wrong driving up i70 looking up hiking paths and views to see the colors. Just make sure you time it correctly. Colorado isn’t the east coast! Colors will peak one week, and be dead the next. Expect the end of September to be prime time, but always look online before making the trip out there!
